Opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Central Executive Board (MYK) member Erdem Karakoç has praised President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s efforts in thwarting a coup attempt on July 15, saying he was “in the sky,” similar to the Mi’raj where the Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven and spoke with God.
In a recently revealed video that appears to have been recorded following the coup attempt in July, Karakoç speaks to party members and says President Erdoğan, the prime minister and MHP leader were all united to fight against the coup attempt on the night of July 15.
“We witnessed that night together. Our President [Erdoğan] was in the sky similar to [ascending to heaven] in the Mi’raj. Our prime minister was trying to coordinate the movement [of security forces battling the putschists]. Our [MHP] chairman was in his Ankara office with the lights on and sent his deputies to Parliament to say ‘we are here’,” he said.
According to Islam, the Prophet Muhammad physically and spiritually took a night journey, traveling on the steed Buraq from Mecca to Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem where he led other prophets in prayer and then ascended to heaven in the Mi’raj journey, where he spoke to God.
