Turkey’s Personal Data Protection Board (KVKK) has launched an investigation into social media platform TikTok over concerns about a possible data security gap, state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Thursday.

The government watchdog acted on complaints and news reports, according to Anadolu.

The KVKK has repeatedly fined Facebook for violation of data protection laws.

Yesterday, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared his intention to closely monitor the social media after his daughter and son-in-law were insulted on Twitter.
