3 more mothers join sit-ins demanding Kurdish party facilitate return of their children

Must read

Three more mothers on Monday joined sit-ins in front of the Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) headquarters in Diyarbakır, demanding the return of their children, who were allegedly kidnapped or were deceived by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists during recruiting.

The total number of families searching for their children has reached 17 since the sit-ins started on Sept. 3.

The families accuse the Kurdish opposition party of helping the PKK to deceive their children.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Monday criticized Turkish dissidents who have been supporting the Saturday Mothers, a group of activists and relatives seeking the whereabouts of loved ones who disappeared while in police custody in the 1990s, for ignoring the sit-ins in Diyarbakır.

HDP officials said the mothers had planned the sit-ins at the direction of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

The PKK has been waging a bloody insurgency for decades in Turkey’s Southeast and is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.
