The Turkish national football team will face France, the latest World Cup champion, in the Euro 2020 qualifying group stage.

The French national team is still one of the favorites in the qualifying stage and the tournament as well.

Turkey’s coach Mircea Lucescu told reporters after the draw, “I hope our first match will not be against France.”

The qualification draw was held in Ireland on Sunday, and the matches will start in March.

Turkey’s other opponents in Group H are Iceland, Albania, Moldova and Andorra.

For the first time in the tournament’s history the games in 2020 will be played in several European cities including Azerbaijan’s Baku and Russia’s St. Petersburg.
