Archeologists led by Yasemin Yılmaz, an assistant professor from Düzce University’s archeology department, conducted research in the village of Tozkoparan and found stone tools from the Paleolithic period.

“We have made very important findings about human life in Anatolia during a surface analysis in Tozkoparan. This is an incredibly big discovery. We have found stone tools, stone knives and other implements. Experts will conduct hypological and technological analyses. In addition we will analyze residue on these tools, after which we can give a date certain,” said Yılmaz.

Yılmaz said they have been doing archeological surface analysis in Tunceli’s Mazgirt district since 2015 and that they started work in Pertek in 2017.

She added that they knew the of existence of the Paleolithic period in the region but did not know it dated to that long ago.
