Turkey’s unemployment rate at 12.6 percent in February

Turkey’s unemployment rate stood at 12.6 percent in February, falling from a seven-year high of 13 percent a month earlier but up from 10.9 percent the previous year, data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) indicated on Monday.

The non-agricultural unemployment rate stood at 14.8 percent during the first quarter, up from 12.7 percent a year earlier, the data showed. The youth unemployment rate rose to 23.3 percent from 18.6 percent the previous year.

The number of unemployed people in the country rose to 3.9 million with an increase of 676,000 when compared to last year’s figures.
