A funeral ceremony was held in the southeastern province of Gaziantep on Friday for former Derik District Governor Muhammed Fatih Safitürk, who died earlier in the day, succumbing to injuries sustained in a terrorist attack on Thursday.
Safitürk’s wife Ayşegül and his three-year-old son Asım Eren looked devastated as they bade farewell to the former district governor.
Three people including Safitürk were injured in an explosion near the residence of the Derik district governor on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Mardin Governor’s Office, Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists attacked the residence of the district governor with homemade explosives, injuring three people including Safitürk.
The former district governor was appointed as a trustee to the Derik Municipality in Mardin in September.
He would be laid to rest in his hometown of Sakarya.
