DBP Şırnak provincial head missing for 36 days as police deny detaining him

Must read

The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Şırnak Provincial Chairman Hurşit Külter has been missing since May 27, while law enforcement denies his detention despite witness accounts.

Külter’s family and loved ones told the media that they have been failing to receive a sufficient response from officials for 36 days. A week ago, Minister of Defense Fikri Işık stated that the Ministry of Interior has appointed an inspector to investigate the issue.

Witnesses claim Külter was detained by police as the Week of Missing People was observed between May 17 and 31. Külter’s mother Kerime Külter has called for raising awareness concerning the uncertainty about her son’s situation.

Human rights organizations are putting efforts into pursuing the search of Külter. A total of 43 petitions on the issue were filed with the Ministry of Interior by a group of attorneys and civil rights groups. However, only one of the petitions was responded by the Ministry of Interior, which said that the issue did not fall into the area of the ministry.
