Turkish defense contractor FNSS, known for building armored land vehicles, is in negotiations with Spain over the possible sale of its PARS 6×6 armored personnel carrier, according to Türkiye Today.
The PARS 6×6 is part of FNSS’s family of wheeled armored vehicles, designed to transport soldiers safely while providing protection against mines, roadside bombs and small-arms fire. It can carry nine troops, travel at highway speeds and maneuver across difficult terrain.
Talks with Spain come after FNSS signed a memorandum of understanding in Madrid on May 17 during the FEINDEF Defense and Security Exhibition. The agreement was signed with Spanish companies Grupo Oesia and TSD, along with Belgium-based John Cockerill Defense, at a ceremony attended by FNSS officials.
The deal sets out plans for vehicle production and assembly in Spain as well as the integration of manned turrets and armored designs. It also outlines longer-term goals for technology transfer and cooperation between the partners.
Each company brings a specific role. TSD, which has produced more than 15,000 vehicles in 25 years, would contribute expertise in design and local production. Grupo Oesia, a Spanish multinational focused on defense and digital technologies, would handle optronics and secure communications. John Cockerill Defense would supply its combat-tested Cockerill 3030 turret, which carries a 30mm gun and is already deployed on more than 300 vehicles worldwide.
The talks were also highlighted during the Turkish Defense Industry International Media Program on August 29, when FNSS executives told visiting journalists that discussions with Spain were active and details of the PARS 6×6 offer had been presented. A Spanish defense analyst later confirmed the information on social media.
FNSS has delivered thousands of armored vehicles worldwide since its establishment in 1990, including to Malaysia, Oman, the Philippines, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. A deal with Spain would mark its first major entry into the European market, expanding Turkish defense exports to a NATO ally.
The PARS III 6×6, the latest model, weighs 25 tons and is designed to be transported by military cargo aircraft such as the Airbus A400M. It is built for both speed and endurance, capable of traveling 800 kilometers without refueling and reaching 100 kilometers per hour. Off-road, it can climb steep slopes, ford water obstacles and turn within seven meters thanks to its advanced suspension and steering system. An amphibious version is also available.
The vehicle is designed in line with NATO’s STANAG 4569 protection standards, which define levels of ballistic and mine resistance. Standard equipment includes smoke launchers, an automatic fire suppression system, protection against chemical and biological threats and digital battlefield management systems.
Although the memorandum signed in May lays out a framework for cooperation, Spain has not yet made a final procurement decision. For FNSS, a confirmed contract would be a milestone, cementing its reputation as a supplier of armored vehicles to European defense programs and strengthening Turkey’s defense industry ties within NATO.
