Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca met with Egyptian Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar in Cairo on Wednesday to discuss providing aid to Gaza and transferring Palestinian cancer patients to Turkey, Turkish state broadcaster TRT reported.

Koca arrived in Cairo earlier in the day and was greeted by Abdel Ghaffar and other officials. During his visit, the Turkish minister toured the Nasr Institute Hospital, where he observed the treatment of individuals injured in Gaza and received updates on their condition.

The visit followed Koca’s recent discussions with his Israeli and Egyptian counterparts about patient transfers from the besieged Palestinian enclave via the Rafah border crossing. These talks led to the formation of a coordination team with representatives from Turkey, Egypt and Israel.

Turkey has been sending aid to Gaza, comprising medical equipment, ambulances and supplies, in response to the escalating humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Israel’s ongoing offensive following the Hamas attack on Oct. 7.
