Turkey recorded 992 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number to 214,993, while 20 more people have died of the disease, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

According to the chart, the death toll has reached 5,402 with the latest additions.

Over the past several weeks the number of new infections has been fluctuating, although it was on an upward trajectory after an easing of anti-coronavirus measures by the Turkish government as of June 1.

There are 1,204 patients in intensive care, of whom 396 are on ventilators. The number of patients requiring intensive care had been rising since June 10, when the figure was 631. The rise stopped today with a decrease of 19 patients.

The chart indicated that 1,049 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Turkey conducted 43,231 tests for the coronavirus over the past day, bringing the overall number of tests carried out so far to 4,065,178.

The chart showed that 196,720 people have recovered in Turkey since the start of the outbreak. Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11. The country eased preventative measures at the start of June, opening shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and mosques.
