The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Turkey has reached 61,049 with an increase of 4,093 on Monday, while the death toll increased to 1,296, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

Turkey has obtained results from 410,556 tests for coronavirus, the chart indicated.

A total of 3,957 patients have been discharged from hospitals so far, while 1,786 are still in critical care.

“The pace of the increase in confirmed cases is easing,” the health minister tweeted.

As of Monday, Turkey had the third highest number of daily increases of cases worldwide.

The first case of COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, in Turkey was confirmed on March 11.

Globally nearly 2 million people have contracted the virus, and more than 117,000 have died since early January.
