Turkey’s confirmed cases of coronavirus increased by 4,789 to reach 56,956 in the last 24 hours, and 97 more people have died, bringing the death toll to 1,198, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced on Sunday.

The total number of people who have recovered stands at 3,446, and 35,720 tests were conducted over the last 24 hours, according to a chart Koca tweeted.

Koca said a drop in the number of patients admitted to intensive care units, which he first mentioned of on Saturday, continues as well as the number of patients who are put on ventilators.

“The more we conduct tests, the more we diagnose cases and isolate them in a foreseeable way. We are strong in treatment. But this struggle is not won at hospitals but by staying at home,” tweeted the minister.

The chart showed that a total of 376,100 tests have been conducted in Turkey since the first case of coronavirus was confirmed in the country on March 11.

First seen in the Chinese city of Wuhan, COVID-19 has spread rapidly around the world, infecting over 1,827,147 people worldwide and killing more than 112,000. Some 416,000 people have recovered, according to Worldometers.info.
