Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke with US President Donald Trump about the migrant crisis evolving on Greece’s border with Turkey, a statement from the Greek premier’s office said on Monday, with Trump “[recognizing] the right of Greece to enforce the law on its borders.”
The White House has confirmed the phone conversation in a statement.
“The President expressed his support for Greece’s efforts to secure its borders and encouraged Greece to work with regional partners to address the mass movement of migrants into Europe,” it said.
Thousands of migrants living in Turkey arrived at the Greek border after the Turkish president last week said the floodgates would be opened.
