Libya’s GNA denies reports of Syrian extremists fighting in their ranks: Anadolu

Must read

A spokesperson from Libya’s UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) has told Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency that reports suggesting that Syrian extremists were fighting among GNA forces were not true.

“The claim that radical Syrian fighters are among GNA forces, which are defending the capital Tripoli against Khalifa Haftar’s forces, is far from reality,” Abdul-Malik Al-Madani, the spokesman said.

Madani reiterated that the GNA’s calls to the UN to stop the killing of innocent civilians remain unanswered.

The spokesman highlighted that Turkey provides military and security support to GNA’s ground forces as part of an agreement signed between the two sides.

He said some military experts came to Libya from Turkey but that they were not involved in the conflict in Tripoli.

“They are here for the GNA and Turkey’s common interests,” he added.

The Associated Press on Wednesday reported that Syrian militants affiliated with al-Qaeda and Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists were deployed to Libya by Turkey.
