Must read

Turkish public broadcaster TRT launched a digital operation in Germany on Tuesday, according to a statement on its website.

“We are clearly positioning ourselves against right-wing radicalism and Islamophobia as well as against all forms of discrimination. We are committed to a plural, liberal-democratic society,” the statement said in German.

Currently running a beta version of the website, TRT German, based in Berlin, will be accessible on YouTube as well.

Nearly 3 million people with Turkish roots live in Germany, half of whom hold German citizenship.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have strong ties with the Turkish community living in Europe, a majority of whom are Erdoğan supporters.
