Former Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan has for the first time since 2015 become active on his Twitter account and posted a series of messages in which he vows to fight for more democracy, justice and freedoms in 2020.
Babacan, who recently parted ways with his former Justice and Development Party (AKP), is preparing to establish a new political party. He has been critical of the policies of the ruling AKP for some time.
The former minister, who recently reactivated his Twitter account, used the platform to express his wishes for 2020.
“I wish happiness and good health to all of our citizens. I hope our nation, especially the young people, will begin to look at the future with hope and confidence in the year 2020. 2020 will be a year when fear and pessimism will dwindle, and hope and courage will flourish. … I want a Turkey where justice and law rule and where people can express their opinions without fear and fully enjoy their freedoms,” said Babacan.
The former minister is expected to make the official establishment of his party public later this month.
