Davutoğlu and team to declare assets prior to establishment of new party

Must read

Former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and his team will publicly declare their assets prior to the establishment of a new party, the Euronews website reported.

Davutoğlu recently parted ways with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) after serving in important posts for years. He is preparing to establish a rival party to the AKP.

The former prime minister recently called on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to declare his and his family members’ assets.

Davutoğlu’s call came after Erdoğan accused allies-turned-rivals including Davutoğlu of defrauding the state-owned Halkbank in a controversy over İstanbul Şehir University.

Erdoğan provided no evidence for his allegation that fraud tainted İstanbul Şehir University’s loan from Halkbank, which he said totaled TL 417 million ($72 million).

Davutoğlu was one of the founders of the university, which is struggling to repay the loan. Halkbank has taken the university to court trying to get repayment, and the school’s assets have been frozen.
