Local İstanbul authorities ban Hrant Dink foundation conference on history of central Anatolian city

Must read

The Hrant Dink Foundation on Thursday announced that a planned conference on the heritage of Kayseri province has been banned by local İstanbul authorities.

The conference, titled “The Social, Cultural and Economic History of Kayseri and the Region” was scheduled to take place on Oct. 18 and 19 in İstanbul, with all preparations already made, the Armenian foundation announced.

No justification was provided for the decision by the local authorities.

The organization had initially planned to hold the event in Kayseri; however, that plan was abandoned after the Kayseri Governor’s Office also decided to block it.

The foundation was set up in 2007 to perpetuate the memory of Hrant Dink, a Turkish-Armenian journalist and the former editor-in-chief of the Agos newspaper who was assassinated by an ultranationalist Turkish youngster that year.
