Must read

A Turkish journalist was attacked, the fourth in the last two weeks, in Adana province, according to the Bianet news website, after he said he had received threatening messages by phone.

Hakan Denizli, owner of the local Egemen daily in Adana, was shot in the foot by two armed men on Friday morning as he entered the newspaper office.

The suspects have not yet been apprehended by the police, but the report indicated that the attack was related to news coverage in the paper.

According to Bianet he had been the subject of assaults several times before.

The Çukurova Journalists Association (ÇGC) issued a statement condemning the attack.

In the last two weeks journalists İdris Özyol and Ergin Çevik in Antalya, and Yavuz Selim Demirağ in Ankara were assaulted.

The assailants in Demirağ’s case were released by a court without any charges.

In the last five months seven out of eight assaults targeting journalists were aimed at local reporters and newspaper executives.
