Turkey’s population stood at 82,003,882 at the end of 2018, according to the country’s national statistics institute, Deutsche Welle Turkish service reported on Friday.
The population increased by 1,193,357 over the previous year in 2018.
According to the data, 50.2 percent of the population is male, while 49.8 percent is female.
Turkey’s urban population decreased in 2018 by nearly 0.2 percent to 92.3 percent, while the rural population climbed to 7.7 percent.
The most populated city of Turkey remains İstanbul with its 15,067,724 residents, 18.4 percent of the overall population.
İstanbul is followed by Ankara, İzmir and Bursa.
The least populated city is Bayburt with 82,274 people.
The population density, the residents per square kilometer, of İstanbul is 2,900, which makes it the most densely populated city in the country.
Kocaeli is the second most densely populated city.
