Number of unemployed in Turkey rises to 2.7 million

The number of people in Turkey who were unemployed as of the end of August rose to 2,751,000 according to data from the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR).

Jobless people in the same period of 2017 totaled some 2,500,000.

Data from İŞKUR showed that 48 percent of the jobless are men, while 52 percent are women and 34 percent are between the ages of 15 and 24.

In August, 92,284 people were employed, 64 percent of whom were men and 36 percent were women.

In the first eight months of 2018, a total of 762,933 people found jobs, 66 percent of whom were men and 34 percent women.

The İŞKUR data also showed that there has been a 6.4 percent increase in the number of people who were employed in the first eight months of the year when compared with data from the same period of 2017.
