One of the two police officers who beat up a woman and dragged by her hair on a street in the southern province of Antalya’s Alanya district was arrested on Thursday after an investigation was launched into the incident.

A cell phone video that shows two police officers in Alanya repeatedly striking a woman with a baton has prompted an investigation, authorities announced on Wednesday.

According to the 45-second clip that was recorded by an eyewitness and released on Twitter, two officers and a woman exchange a series of escalating insults and challenges, and the brawl ends up with officers repeatedly striking the woman on the upper part of her body and her head.

After the video was widely shared on Turkish social media on Wednesday, Alanya Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into the incident. The two policemen, who beat the woman, were identified and they were suspended from duty, while the authorities launched a probe to find the woman because she did not apply to the police for the incident.

The authorities then determined that the woman was of Kyrgyzstan origin and she was found in Antalya’s Gazipaşa district. The officials helped the woman obtain a health report from a local hospital, as one of her eyes, her shoulder and her leg were severely bruised in the attack. She was later taken to the Alanya Prosecutor’s Office for testimony.
