Turkey condemns disproportionate use of force by Myanmar against Rohingya Muslims

Must read

Turkey on Monday condemned the disproportionate use of force by Myanmar security forces after attacks by militants in Rakhine state on Friday.

“We are deeply concerned that the operations of Myanmar security forces following the attacks on the night of 25 August in northern Rakhine State have led to a serious humanitarian crisis. We condemn the disproportionate use of force by the security forces which resulted in the killing of hundreds of people and the displacement of thousands more,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.

According to the ministry, Turkey offered to help Bangladesh in providing support for the fleeing Rohingya Muslims.

Hundreds have died in clashes between Burmese authorities and Rohingya insurgents, leading thousands of Rohingya Muslims to flee to Bangladesh due to tensions between Buddhists and Muslims ongoing since 2012.

National leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been criticized for not raising her voice against the persecution of the Muslim minority.
