Erdal Sarı, mayor of the Altunhisar district of the central province of Niğde, was slightly injured in an armed attack on Thursday.
A child was also seriously injured in the attack, according to Turkish media reports.
Sarı was hospitalized at the Ömer Halisdemir Teaching and Research Hospital, and an investigation has been launched to capture the assailant.
