8 more Kurdish politicians arrested on terrorism charges

Deputy co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Seydi Fırat was arrested on Thursday along with seven other Kurdish politicians on charges of serving as executives of a terrorist organization.

Fırat, Mehmet Baysal, Cebbar Leygara, Edip Yaşar, Cafer Kan, Abdulbaki Karadeniz, Ramazan Özbek and Halis Bilen were arrested as part of an investigation pursued by the Diyarbakır republican prosecutor into the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK), .

As part of a crackdown against Kurdish political movement that gained pace in November, several politicians have been arrested including the co-chairs of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, as well as veteran politician Ahmet Türk.
