Bengi Kömürcü and Duygu Ciniviz, two reporters for JINHA, a pro-Kurdish news agency that the government closed down under post-coup emergency rule, were detained in İstanbul on Sunday.

Journalists gathered at the Kadıköy ferry terminal to report on a press meeting held by some women’s organizations on Sunday. After a random identification check, police detained Kömürcü and Ciniviz on accusations that they failed to testify in a case against them.

The Turkish government shut down another 10 newspapers and three magazines as well as two news agencies in the latest government decree issued under post-coup emergency rule, on Oct. 29.

Among the media outlets shut down are the pro-Kurdish Dicle News Agency (DİHA) and the Jin News Agency (JINHA); the Özgür Gündem and Azadiya Welat newspapers; and the Yüksekova Haber, Batman Çağdaş, Cizre Postası, İdil Haber, Güney Expres, Prestij Haber, Urfanatik and Kızıltepe’nin Sesi local papers.
