Police detain 3 more relatives of Turkey’s prime coup attempt suspect

Must read

Three sisters of the wife of Adil Öksüz, one of the main suspects wanted for his alleged role in an attempted coup in Turkey on July 15, were detained on Thursday.

Naciye Alişan, Belkıs Nur Tetik and Seyyide Öznur, the three sisters-in-law of Öksüz, were brought to the Sakarya Police Station for interrogation.

Critics have lambasted the government for a massive purge it is carrying out that violates the principle of individual criminal responsibility.

Both the mother and father-in-law of Öksüz were arrested in August. Öksüz is accused of being the head of the movement’s alleged network within air force.

In a separate investigation in late July, police also arrested the wife of critical Turkish journalist Bülent Korucu and vowed to hold her hostage until her husband surrenders to police.

The government accuses the Gulen movement of masterminding the coup attempt and has arrested some 23,000 people affiliated with it since July 15. Among the arrestees are journalists, judges, prosecutors, businessmen and police officers.

The movement denies any involvement. (Turkey Purge)
