Egypt’s foreign minister will host his counterparts from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey in the Mediterranean city of Alamein on Sunday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty will hold a four-way meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, followed by broader talks and a joint press conference, the ministry said in a statement late Thursday.
The ministry did not say what the ministers would discuss. The four countries have been involved in diplomatic efforts related to the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
The foreign ministers last met in April on the sidelines of a diplomatic forum in the Turkish resort city of Antalya.
The Alamein meeting comes after US-Iran talks scheduled for Friday in Switzerland were postponed, according to the Swiss Foreign Ministry. The talks were intended to follow up on a US-Iran agreement reached earlier this week.
The White House confirmed that US Vice President JD Vance’s planned trip to Switzerland for the talks had been canceled.
The agreement aims to end the fighting, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and begin a 60-day negotiation period on broader issues, including Iran’s nuclear program.
It was also intended to halt fighting in Lebanon, but clashes have since resumed between Israeli forces and Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters.
