Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın met with senior Hamas officials in Ankara to discuss the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, Turkish security sources told the state-run Anadolu news agency on Monday.
Kalın, head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT), met with Hamas Shura Council Chairman Muhammad Darwish and members of the group’s political bureau, the sources said.
The Hamas delegation told Kalın that the group was complying with the ceasefire and briefed him on what it described as Israeli violations of the agreement.
The meeting also addressed Israeli military attacks on Gaza during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, the sources said.
Officials discussed Turkey’s role as a guarantor country and its efforts to support implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza.
They also reviewed possible steps to prevent further Israeli violations and ensure that Israel fulfills its obligations under the first phase of the agreement.
The talks included discussion of Israel’s policies in Jerusalem and the wider region, with participants saying no imposed outcome would be accepted.
The meeting also covered Turkey’s humanitarian aid to Gaza and efforts with regional countries and international organizations to increase aid deliveries.
Turkish officials said Ankara would continue efforts toward a lasting ceasefire in the territory.
