A Turkish-owned vessel has safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdülkadir Uraloğlu said on Monday.

Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, a key global waterway, after US and Israeli strikes on Feb. 28 triggered a wider regional conflict and sent global oil and gas prices higher.

“The Turkish-owned vessel Ocean Thunder, which was carrying crude oil from Iraq to Malaysia, safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz last night,” Uraloğlu said on X.

The vessel departed from Iraq’s southern port of Basra, according to ship-tracking data from MarineTraffic.

The crossing marks the third Turkish-owned vessel to exit the strait after two ships left over the weekend.

Uraloğlu said the number of Turkish-owned ships remaining near the Strait of Hormuz has dropped to 12, with eight ships still seeking to leave the region.

He added that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe departure of the eight vessels and the 156 personnel on board.
