Turkey said on Monday that a ballistic munition launched from Iran was neutralized by NATO forces after entering Turkish airspace, marking the fourth such interception since the US and Israeli strikes on Iran began on February 28.

In a statement posted on X, the Turkish Ministry of Defense said the munition was brought down by NATO air and missile defense assets deployed in the eastern Mediterranean.

“A ballistic munition, determined to have been launched from Iran and to have entered into Turkish airspace, has been neutralized by NATO air and missile defence assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean,” the ministry said.

The ministry said Turkey was taking “all necessary measures” against threats to its territory and airspace and was closely monitoring developments in the region.

The statement comes as the conflict between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other has raised concern in Turkey, a NATO member that shares a border with Iran and lies along key military and commercial routes in the region.

Turkey has said since the start of the conflict that it is not a party to the fighting, while warning that any spillover threatening its territory would draw a response.
