Turkey detention

Turkish police on Monday detained 23 people, including an actor, in the latest wave of an ongoing drug investigation centered in İstanbul, prosecutors said.

The İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that detention warrants were issued for 26 suspects on charges including possession of narcotics for personal use, facilitating drug use and encouraging or mediating prostitution.

Police detained 23 of those suspects during coordinated operations carried out in İstanbul, İzmir, Denizli and Muğla provinces.

Among those taken into custody was Doğukan Güngör, 29, an actor known for his role as Fatih in the popular television series “Kızılcık Şerbeti” (Cranberry Syrup).

Prosecutors also confirmed the detention of Haluk Şentürk, a talent manager who has represented several well-known musicians and performers, including Hadise and Gülşen.

Prosecutors said one suspect was already in prison on unrelated charges, while two others were believed to be abroad. Two additional suspects, Kasım Garipoğlu and Mert Vidinli, remain at large. The investigation has so far resulted in the arrest of 36 people.

The latest detentions were part of a broader series of drug operations launched in October in İstanbul that have involved figures from the media, entertainment and business sectors.

Some suspects questioned earlier were released after providing statements and biological samples, while others were arrested.
