A 31-year-old Israeli mafia leader named Omre Oda, who was wanted on an INTERPOL Red Notice, has been captured in a police operation in İstanbul, the İhlas News Agency (İHA) reported on Wednesday.
Oda was detained in İstanbul’s Şişli district, where he had been living with his girlfriend, as part of an operation carried out by police from the public safety unit of the İstanbul Police Department, İHA said.
After questioning, the Israeli mafia boss was arrested by a court and jailed.
According to İHA, Oda was sought on an INTERPOL Red Notice on charges that include “murder,” “attempted murder,” “money laundering,” “blackmailing,” “conspiring to commit a crime,” “kidnapping with intent to murder or blackmail,” “violating the firearms law,” “attempting to destroy property with explosives” and “fraud” that he was suspected to have committed in Israel between 2017 and 2019.
Oda, who was wanted by police in Israel, was apprehended by Turkish police at a time when the two countries had just proclaimed a new era in relations following more than a decade of diplomatic rupture, İHA said.
Israel’s president Isaac Herzog had talks in Ankara on March 9 with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the first visit by an Israeli president since 2007.
