Turkey’s investment, finance offices launch branches in Qatari capital

Turkey’s Investment Office and Finance Office have opened branches in the Qatar Financial Center, located in the Qatari capital of Doha, to facilitate the expansion of economic, business and investment relations between the two countries, local media reported on Tuesday.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Mehmet Göksu, the Turkish ambassador to Qatar, said Qatari investors seeking to analyze the Turkish market would have all the information they need at the branches.

Göksu also stated that the opening of the new branches was in line with one of the treaties signed in 2019 by Turkey and Qatar, in the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

“Qatari businesspeople will now have access to the many advantages that these offices offer,” Göksu added.

Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, CEO of the Qatar Financial Center, said the branches would be important for strengthening the two countries’ investment and trade relations.

Critics have long condemned Erdoğan’s relations with the ideologically aligned Qatari emir.

Qatar and Turkey have enjoyed close relations, particularly since a diplomatic crisis erupted on June 5, 2017. The Arab quartet, led by the UAE and Saudi Arabia, accused Qatar of links to the Muslim Brotherhood along with several other militant Islamist groups in the region.

Qatar was supportive of the Arab Spring, which first erupted in 2011 in Tunisia, with a view to ousting established regimes in Arab countries. Since then, Turkey has backed Qatar and increased its number of troops in the Gulf country.
