Turkey announced 928 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number to 221,500, while 18 more people have died of the disease, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

According to the chart the death toll has reached 5,526 with the latest additions.

The number of daily coronavirus cases has remained below 1,000 for more than a week now, the ministry data indicated.

“In the last three days, the number of pneumonia cases has decreased in at least 71 provinces. And 21 cities have no intensive care patients,” the minister tweeted.

There are 1,246 patients in intensive care, 379 of whom are on ventilators.

The chart indicated that 1,009 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Turkey conducted 42,846 tests for the coronavirus over the past day, bringing the overall number of tests carried out so far to 4,359,627.

The chart showed that 204,011 people have recovered in Turkey since the start of the outbreak.

Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11. The country eased preventative measures at the start of June, opening shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and mosques.
