Sixty-one more people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced on Sunday, the lowest number in a month.
The country’s total death toll stands at 3,397.
According to a chart posted on Twitter by the minister 1,670 more cases were confirmed, with the total number of infections now at 126,045. The daily increase is the lowest in over a month, but the number of tests administered has also decreased, with only 24,001 tests conducted over the past 24 hours.
According to the data 4,892 people were released from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of recovered patients to 63,151.
“Since March 11, the number of recovered patients has exceeded the number of coronavirus patients. The more we abide by the measures, the better it will be,” tweeted the minister.
Turkey recorded the first COVID-19 case on March 11.
The Turkish Medical Association (TMA) says Turkey’s official coronavirus death statistics do not include cases that strongly indicate COVID-19 but test negative.
Turkey has not implemented a full lockdown, and curfews are imposed in 31 major cities only on the weekends. People aged 65 and over as well as those 20 and under are prohibited from going outside as part of measures to contain the epidemic.
The country extended restrictions put in place in early April of entry and exit from 31 Turkish cities for another day until President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reviews the measures Monday.
First seen in the Chinese city of Wuhan, COVID-19 has spread rapidly around the world, infecting over 3,555,338 people worldwide and killing at least 247,631 as of Sunday. Some 1,113,862 people have recovered, according to Worldometers.info.
