A 45-year-old man in the northwestern Turkish province of Tekirdağ has died after taking disinfectant and ethyl alcohol to protect himself against the novel coronavirus, according to Turkish media reports.
The incident took place in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood of Tekirdağ. The man, Barış Çimen, was hospitalized with complaints of stomach pain and subsequently died.
Çimen reportedly told his family members before his death that he took disinfectant and ethyl alcohol against COVID 19, caused by the novel coronavirus.
Police have launched an investigation into Çimen’s death.
As of Sunday, there were a total of 110,120 COVID-19 cases in Turkey, while the number of deaths caused by the coronavirus stands at 2,805.
