The health ministry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) announced on Friday that the number of coronavirus-infected patients in the country has increased to five — four German tourists and one KKTC citizen who traveled from the UK.

The KKTC, a self-declared state recognized only by Turkey, had two cases earlier this week. The new patients with COVID-19 were already under quarantine, the ministry said.

Meanwhile on the Greek side of the island, 14 cases have been confirmed, according to the Kathimerini daily.

After emerging in Wuhan, China, in December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 114 countries.

The global death toll is now over 4,600, with more than 125,000 confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), which has declared the outbreak a pandemic.
