Turkish army deploys more military vehicles to Idlib region: report

Must read

The Turkish army has strengthened its presence in Idlib and deployed more tanks, artillery and armored vehicles of various types for their forces inside Syria, according to the Al-Masdar news website, which cites Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency.

The army also brought in more military reinforcements from various units, Anadolu said.

The agency, quoting its correspondent, indicated that the army had transported artillery, tanks and personnel carriers to the town of Reyhanlı in the southern province of Hatay.

The convoy of 150 armored vehicles then headed to Turkish observation points deployed around the Syrian city of Idlib, amid heightened security measures.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said a few days ago that Turkey would engage with the Syrian army if they did not withdraw from Idlib before the end of February and that his country “would not stand silent in the face of besieged Turkish observation posts in Idlib.”

In his statement the Turkish president called on his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to pressure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to halt the attacks carried out by the Syrian army in Idlib.
