Erdogan on April 16, 2017 hailed Turkey for making a "historic decision" as he claimed victory in the referendum on a new constitution expanding his powers. The "Yes" campaign to give Turkish President expanded powers won with 51.3 percent of the vote a tightly-contested referendum although the "No" camp had closed the gap, according to initial results. staff members of Turkey’s Social Security Institution (SGK) in Trabzon were
sentenced to two years, six months in prison each for looking at President
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s registry on the social security database, the Haber Türk
newspaper reported on Thursday.
The employees were tried for “illegally obtaining individual data” after inspectors discovered that they had used their personal accounts to look at Erdoğan’s records and notified the Trabzon Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
During the trial, the employees admitted to looking at the records out of curiosity without knowing that it constituted a crime.
