5 injured as explosion hits riot police bus in southern Turkey

A bomb blast has hit a bus carrying police in Turkey’s southern city of Adana, slightly injuring five people, according to local officials.

The governor’s office in Adana said on Wednesday the explosion went off as a riot police bus passed by. The statement said a police officer was among the injured. Images of the explosion’s aftermath showed a badly damaged bus.

Adana Governor Mahmut Demirtaş told the state-run Anadolu news agency that the explosion was caused either by an “improvised explosive device or a different type of bomb.”

“The injured are in good condition. Some went to the hospital as a precaution. There are no issues for our police,” Demirtaş said after police and ambulance services rushed to the scene.

The Adana Governor’s Office said in a statement that an investigation had been launched into the blast. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
