Governor threatens to intervene in opposition rally, İmamoğlu claims

Must read

Opposition mayoral candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu has claimed that the governor of Ordu requested that he cut short a rally in the province and threatened to step in otherwise, the Diken news website reported on Thursday.

Speaking to Fox TV, İmamoğlu also said he was not allowed in to the VIP lounge at the airport upon instructions from Governor Seddar Yavuz.

İmamoğlu is touring the provinces of the eastern Black Sea region as part of his campaign for a repeat mayoral election in İstanbul slated for June 23. Many residents of İstanbul have origins in this region.

His initial victory against the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on March 31 was canceled by Turkey’s election authority based on complaints filed by the AKP. His mandate to govern was thus revoked just a few days after it was delivered.
