Unemployment rate rises 63 percent in Turkey in one year

The unemployment rate in Turkey has increased by 63 percent since February 2018, with 1.5 million more people joining the ranks of the unemployed, according to data released by the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) on Thursday.

There were a total of 2,418,613 unemployed people in Turkey in February 2018, a figure that has reached around 4 million, corresponding to a 63 percent increase.

Thirty percent of the unemployed registered in the country are between the ages of 15 and 24.

Meanwhile, 257,355 people applied for unemployment benefits in February, compared to 145,976 in the same month of 2018.
