Seven Syrian refugee families living in Turkey’s southeastern Mardin province recently received threatening letters accompanied by bullets.

The Mezopotamya news agency reported on Sunday that families residing in the Yalım neighborhood of Artuklu received anonymous letters telling them to leave within 10 days, threatening them with bombs. The letter said they are not wanted in that neighborhood.

Bullets were left with the letters that were slid under their doors.

The Syrian refugees expressed concern over the letters, saying they feared for their children’s safety.

Forty-year-old Syrian refugee Imat Ramazan said they pose no threat to anyone and that he works long hours to make a living and pay the rent.

A 64-year-old Syrian woman, Zelê Mirzê, said she first thought the letter was a wedding invitation, adding that after receiving the threats they are living in fear.
