The pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) launched a “Peace Vigil” in the Turkish Parliament on Tuesday evening in support of a party deputy who is on the 90th day of a hunger strike, Turkish media reports said.

HDP deputy Leyla Güven has been on a hunger strike demanding the removal of a prohibition on outside visits to Abdullah Öcalan, leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The HDP’s vigil in parliament will last for one day.

Güven, who had been arrested on Jan. 31, 2018, was released from jail pending trial last month. She faces a prison sentence of between seventeen-and-a-half and thirty-one-and-a-half years on charges of establishing and leading a terrorist organization, disseminating the propaganda of a terrorist organization and provoking the public to take part in illegal demonstrations.
