October unemployment rate is Turkey’s highest in 19 months

The unemployment rate in Turkey increased to a 19-month high of 11.6 percent in October, the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) said on Tuesday.

“The unemployment rate rose to 11.6 percent with a an increase of 1.3 percentage points,” TurkStat said.

In Turkey, the number of jobless people aged 15 and over rose by 501,000 to 3.79 million, year-on-year in October, it added.

In September the unemployment rate was 11.4 percent.

In March 2017 the unemployed in Turkey numbered 3.64 million people, bringing the unemployment rate to 11.7 percent.

In the two months ahead of the June 2018 general election, the unemployment rate dropped below 10 percent.
