62 alleged ISIL members detained in Turkey

Turkish police detained 62 people over alleged links to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the Diken news website reported on Friday.

Upon the issuance of detention warrants by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, police raided the suspects’ homes and detained 52 people in Ankara and 10 others in the northern province of Samsun.

Police also seized various weapons, money and documents during the searches.

A student dormitory hosting youngsters between the ages of 10 and 16 was also among the locations searched in the scope of the operation. Eight children found there were released after they were questioned by juvenile authorities.

The police are looking for another 12 suspects who are also sought by the prosecutor’s office.
