Former Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, who is now serving as parliament speaker, said on Friday that Turkey spent too much in the past and that the economy would improve in a matter of three to five months.

Yıldırım, who spoke at the İstanbul Economy Summit on Friday, claimed that the economy had worsened due to the global financial crisis of 2008, the anti-government Gezi protests of 2013, the corruption investigations of December 2013, the coup attempt of July 15, 2016 and Turkey “parting ways” with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The last prime minister of Turkey, who served from 2016 to 2018, when the country switched to an executive presidency, also claimed that the government has been taking measures to restructure the economy.
