Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Monday that local elections in March 2019 might mark the end of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.
“The March 2019 elections are not ordinary elections. The local elections may be the end of the main opposition party,” Erdoğan said, speaking at a meeting organized by the women’s branch of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Ankara.
“The chairman of the main opposition party [Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu] is trouble not only for the nation but also for the CHP. We need to rescue the CHP as well.”
The Turkish president said in order to fully reflect the results of the June 24 presidential and parliamentary elections in the administration of the country, they must be successful in the local elections in 2019.
